About Opal

At Opal, we believe enterprise software should be beautiful, simple and designed for the job at hand. Opal is a collaboration platform, built for brand marketing teams to produce, organize and govern creative content.

The Opal StoryFirst™ framework empowers teams with a dedicated environment to visualize and deploy campaigns across all marketing channels, reducing complexity and aligning teams for better marketing results. Our customers are creative, passionate people and, through a platform tailored to their specific needs, we’re helping them rediscover the best parts of their jobs.

Our team is deeply invested in creating a culture that promotes design thinking, collaboration and a passion for excellence. We are building a world class lineup of creative and strategic thinkers that work together as a team to revolutionize the modern marketing organization.

The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for a multi-faceted designer that thrives on big experience challenges and beautiful interfaces; with a strong inclination for empathy for everyone.

Our product team has both a deep-rooted love of aesthetics and design thinking — as well as a healthy, pragmatic engineering culture focused on shipping smart, iterative solutions to evolving user needs. We’re looking for individuals that are enthusiastic about sharpening that vision to a point as we scale the team to the next chapter of our story.

Our design team needs individuals who are both passionate about their work, and open minded when it comes to searching out solutions that are equally practical and delightful.

Designing for the Opal platform is unique and unlike any other product you’ve worked on. Our users are smart, sophisticated marketing professionals that depend on Opal every day to do their jobs and help build their brand’s story. The range of workflows it accommodates is vast and growing, so each design solution must be carefully considered and battle-tested. The interaction and interface of our product continues to be a hallmark of what differentiates us from the enterprise software space as a whole — considered, elegant and beautiful.

We ask quite a bit of our design team, but for good reason —  you’ll need everything in your toolbox to rise to the occasion. Come help us redefine the modern workplace with a product that is defining a new category.

Requirements:

  • Willing to live near or relocate to Portland. We thrive off collaboration and remote work can diminish that strength.
  • 3+ years experience in Interaction Design, Web Design or related role
  • Education background in HCI or Design fundamentals preferred, but exceptions made for strong performers.
  • A strong understanding of application user experience, ideally from both consumer and enterprise products.
  • A healthy balance of design skill sets, with an emphasis on visual and interaction design.
  • Strong collaborative skills — able to recognize when you don't have all the information and willing to work with others to get it.
  • A solid understanding of web technologies, both in its universal value and inherent limitations. You won’t be required to code, but need to understand the landscape.

Helpful Skills:

  • Mobile application design experience, especially creating modular, reusable components for both iOS and Android
  • Comfortable using Sketch for deliverables, and JIRA for managing your workflow.
  • Prototyping in Framer or similar tools. We have the ability to pair with engineers to achieve certain aspects, but time is precious, so the most direct route to a solution is often best.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal teams to review insights, needs and opportunities to get alignment on individual product releases through group workshops; all while mapping against the larger product vision.
  • Work collaboratively with design and engineering teams to create user stories and validate design solutions against a desired outcome.
  • Create a variety of deliverables as needed to explain and document thinking for the larger group in process, from writing to sketches, user flows or anything else it takes to get the job done.
  • Execute design prototypes in low and high fidelity depending on the situation and need.
  • Work with internal teams to identify customer feedback points for anything from interviews to beta testing.
  • Provide pixel-perfect modular UI components and annotated comps that will provide a roadmap for engineering execution.

Benefits:

  • A full-time, salaried position
  • Full healthcare coverage (health, dental, vision, FSA)
  • Short-term disability insurance
  • Early-stage stock options
  • Company-provided computer setup
  • Company-sponsored outreach & activity programs
  • A tight-knit, very supportive team — we pride ourselves on our culture
  • A fun, open office with ping pong, video games and snacks for days
  • Exposure to some of the biggest brands on the planet

If you’d like to join us on this journey, we’d love to talk with you. When applying, submit your resume, portfolio and cover letter describing why you feel you’re a good fit for this role. We can’t wait to hear from you!
