As an Engineer at Opal, you will be joining a team of individuals that have been “battle tested” through real world experience in developing the backends of performant web applications and micro-services that power the Opal Platform.

The Position

Opal is actively looking for Elixir / Phoenix engineers to join our Platform Integrations Team. Engineers on our Integrations Team at Opal connect our world-class marketing platform to the rest of our customers "Marketing Tech Stack". Platform Integrations Engineers work closely with other product, engineering, and design teams at Opal to integrate our platform in unique and deep ways with a wide array of other products and services, building connectors that enable unprecedented workflows and deliver multiplicative value.

Being a Platform Integrations Engineer at Opal looks a little like this:

  • Coding business logic for API clients/connectors in languages like Elixir, Erlang, JS, and Ruby
  • Writing Elixir ETL logic for translating data between RESTful APIs
  • Crafting microservices with Phoenix
  • Keeping it all running smoothly with dashboards and analytics

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for exceptional backend web application engineers who know that world-class applications and infrastructure come from delicately balancing the security, stability, and performance needs of our applications with the human needs of our customers, employees, and partners. The ideal Platform Integrations Engineer candidates are tried and true engineers who are passionate about connecting platforms, mashing up APIs, and fusing disparate software systems into a cohesive whole.

Responsibilities

  • Develop web application and services that power the Opal Integrations Platform in languages like Ruby, Elixir, and Javascript
  • Debug, test, and support our existing Phoenix, Ruby-on-Rails, and NodeJS applications
  • Write and ship new {JSON:API} API endpoints with 100% test coverage and shared API RAML contracts
  • Architect, deploy, and monitor the Opal infrastructure servers and services for uptime, performance, and stability
  • Participate in product workshopping to help determine new features and initiatives
  • Collaborate with Designers, Front-end developers, and Mobile engineers to dream up the next big thing

Skills

  • 3-4+ years of relevant experience developing software applications
  • 2+ years of experience crafting production-grade web applications backends
  • 1+ year experience working with Elixir, Erlang, and the BEAM VM
  • Strong knowledge of web application architecture patterns and pitfalls (MVC, SOA, etc)
  • Strong familiarity with Ruby/Elixir-based web frameworks such as Rails and Phoenix
  • Some familiarity with front-end Javascript libraries and frameworks, such as EmberJS, React, AngularJS, etc
  • Ability to solve complex problems under pressure.
  • Ability to break down complicated issues, communicating with stakeholders and delegating to team members, as needed.
